Important Back to School Information

Dear Parents and Students,

As we quickly approach the beginning of the school year, we hope that all of you have had a relaxing summer. Our maintenance staff has been busy preparing all the classrooms and the building for the start of the year. The construction on the Student Development Center has started and we are excited to see that process unfold this school year. We hope to have it completed by mid-February.

We are looking forward to having our students back in the building. We have an increase in enrollment again this year. We will be starting the year with about 625 students.

We will have several new faculty and staff members joining us this year. Mrs. Tara Robinson and Mr. Eric Cole were here as long term subs last spring. We are excited to have both of them joining our faculty as full-time teachers. Mrs. Robinson will teach Math and Mr. Cole will be teaching Psychology and French. Mrs. Meghan Butz (was Ms. Allen when she was here prior) will be rejoining us as a part-time Religion teacher. Ms. Alyson Barker and Mrs. Claire Lipsitz will be the newest members of our English department. Ms. Sara Ransom and Mrs. Kim Kirsch will be joining our Academic Support team. Mr. Davis DeBord and Dr. Joel Anderson will be leading our Technology department. Ms. Chelsea Trotter will be teaching Math. We are excited to welcome this group to Badin.

Please read the information below for students entering the building and visitors coming to the building during the school day.

With the start of construction, the back doors to the school are closed. Therefore, all students coming in from the upper parking lot will need to enter through the golf course entrance (doors on the east side of the building facing the golf course). This will add a minute or two to the process of entering the building. Students will need to arrive a few minutes earlier to make sure they have time to go to their lockers and get to homeroom by 7:30.

In order to provide a safe walking path to the building from the parking lot, we will have a walkway painted on the blacktop and will be installing safety poles along the path. We will also be putting in temporary speed bumps to slow cars down. It will be important that students drive slowly through the circle and up to the parking lot. Those walking in will need to be sure to stay in the designated walkway.

Please pay attention to all signage and markings on the blacktop. The entrance for all construction vehicles will be our exit. We have added a stop sign at the end of the front circle. Be sure to stop and look for construction trucks entering the property via the exit. Also, the circle is a one-way drive. If you have to go from the upper parking lot to the front parking spots or the faculty lot, exit the property and re-enter through the main entrance. Do not go through the front circle the wrong way. We appreciate your cooperation with this. We are including a diagram of the property to provide a visual of this information (below).

In order to provide as safe a building as we can, we have instituted a new visitor policy. All visitors to Badin will need to enter through the doors at the front of the school. You will enter the building through the far left doors. All visitors will need to have their driver’s license with them to be scanned. We will have an employee in the new security check-in booth and that person will be there to help with the check-in process. This will be the only door visitors will be able to enter during the school day from 7:30 AM to 2:30 PM. This policy will apply to everyone, even if you are just running into the office to drop something off. Your child’s safety is very important to us. Thank you for your support and understanding of this new policy.

Hopefully, the students have been working on their summer reading and other summer assignments. It is important that the students complete this work prior to the start of the school year.

It is also important to make sure you have set up your child’s cafeteria account and money has been loaded onto the account prior to the start of the school year. Students can add money to their account here at school but this must be done prior to 7:30 am. Students may not add money as they are in the lunch line. This holds up the line and causes unnecessary delays.

The Catham Club Draw Down takes place on Saturday, August 17th. The Back to School dance will take place on Sunday, August 11th. Freshmen orientation will be on Wednesday, August 14th and the first day of school for all students is Thursday, August 15th. Our first all-school Mass will be on Wednesday, August 21st. We hope to see you at many of the events.
