Nine Badin High students set for DECA International in Atlanta

Nine Badin High School students will be on the road in April for the annual DECA International Career Development Conference. The marketing education event is set for the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta from Saturday through Tuesday, April 21-24.

Seniors Jacob Waggoner and Will Strunk will lead the way after top finishes at the state conference held in Columbus in early March.

“The international conference is always the capstone of the DECA year, and we’re happy to take another outstanding group of Badin students to the event,” said Mr. Joe DeAngelo, who oversees the DECA program at Badin along with his teaching partner, Mr. Tim McCabe. “The students learn a lot and contribute their skills to a convention that brings in students from all over the globe.”

Waggoner placed first in the Businesses Services competition at the state conference, while Strunk placed second in Personal Financial Literacy. They were the top two finishers from among nearly 60 Badin students who competed in the event at the Hyatt Regency in downtown Columbus.

“It’s a great learning experience for the students to compete and bond during this overnight state conference in Columbus,” DeAngelo said. “We had a good number of successful outcomes, too, and that always makes the trip that much more rewarding.

Junior Andrew Trotter, who was first runner-up in the election for state vice president, will attend the International conference, along with six other students who were finalists in their competition categories at state.

They include junior Christopher Hetterich, Professional Selling; junior Audrey Neyer, Food Marketing; the junior trio of Ted Fischer, Eddie Kammerer and Easton Scowden, Franchise Business Plan; and sophomore Nathan Schuster, Accounting.

Other Badin students who were finalists at state included senior Seth Papania, Financial Consulting; seniors Andrew Fischer and Patrick Mignery, Financial Services Team; junior Shawn Osborne, Entrepreneurship; and sophomores Emily Sauer and Brooke Wolterman, Advertising Campaign.
